About

I’ve supported children, youth, and families for more than 25 years. I’ve used Motivational Interviewing and the Community Resiliency Model in addition to evidence-based parenting coaching models in partnership with families to help their children thrive.

In addition to my coaching and training practice, I’m the Technical Assistance and Consultation Lead at El Futuro. This nonprofit outpatient clinic provides comprehensive mental health services to Latino families in a bilingual environment of hope and healing.

I’m certified by the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and by the Trauma Resource Institute, and I provide training and coaching to professionals on client engagement, cultivating resilience, cultural humility and responsiveness, cross-cultural communication, coaching, and implementation of best practices.

Before I settled in Durham in 1996, I lived in Chicago, New Haven, Buffalo, Madison (Wisconsin), New York, and Seattle. I also lived abroad twice as a child and was immersed in a foreign school system, language, culture, and community.

I learned Spanish as an adult and developed fluency as a foster parent to a child who was a recent immigrant from Mexico and spoke no English. From my decade as a foster parent, I added two daughters—and now four grandchildren—to my family.
